10-Step Korean Skin Care Routine

10-Step Korean Skin Care Routine

With the youth of India highly attracted to Korean dramas and Korean music bands, their culture is slowly being incorporated into ours.

Amongst everything, the flawless and glowing skin of the Koreans makes everyone curious about it and also makes us want it. A lot of it can be attributed to their protein-rich diet, but a bit of the secret lies in their skincare regime as well.

While most western skincare consists of excessively harsh products that do give instant results but prove to be harmful in the long run, Korean skincare consists of mild substances that work according to the skin’s environment and slowly nurtures it into healthy vibrant skin.

Korean skincare is usually a multi-step routine, with 10 being the most popular number. So, below is the 10-Step Korean skin care routine:

1. Oil-based cleanser

The very first step to this seemingly long routine is cleansing the face with a mild, oil-based cleanser. As oil and water repel each other, most of the oil-based impurities won’t go away when one uses a water-based cleanser. SPF, makeup, and your body’s natural sebum are removed using an oil-based cleanser. This also doesn’t get
rid of the natural oils from the face.

All in all, it works while preserving the natural environment of the skin, and unlike the harsh chemical-based cleansers, they also contain skin-friendly ingredients that nurture the skin for the long run.

2. Water-based cleanser

When we usually ask for a cleanser in the market, this is what we get. This is the most popular cleanser and people usually use this.

The second step is to gently rub the skin with this and wash it off soon after. Here, this is used to remove the excess sweat and dirt that the oil-based cleanser couldn’t. Also, this leaves the skin dry and at this point, the skin is very sensitive.

3. Exfoliant

The third step is to gently exfoliate your skin using a mild exfoliant. Exfoliants are like scrubs and are used to remove dead skin cells. They improve the texture of the skin and lead to soft skin.

They also prevent the clogging of pores. Korean skincare promotes the use of a light physical or chemical exfoliant that can be used up to 3 times a week.

The exfoliants referred to here are usually made of natural ingredients like orange peel and once used, they leave very smooth skin behind.

4. Toner

The fourth and a very essential step in this routine is the use of a toner. The cleansers and exfoliants tend to disrupt the skin’s pH and this is when the toner comes into play. Its major function is to balance the skin’s pH into its usual acidic state.

The skin also tends to be a bit dry at this point and toners bring back the moisture of the skin. In the recent past, toners have been introduced with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties, and other beneficial additives. They tend to be moisturizing and calming as compared to alcohol-based ones.

5. Essence

The fifth step is the essence which is not essentially the most popular, but surely a necessary one. Essences are formulated with fermented ingredients and are meant to hydrate and protect the skin.

They are a water-based amalgam of serum and toner. They prevent the skin from withering and also help in making the skin radiant without any pigmentation.

6. Treatment

The sixth step is the treatment of skin problems by providing them with extra care. It refers to treating specific ailments like active acne, wrinkles, or scars.

It usually contains a serum that brings back the moisture of the skin and targets skin abnormalities. The serum must be applied to the acne and the wrinkle-prone areas to reap its maximum benefit.

7. Sheet mask

The seventh step is to put on a sheet mask and bask in its greatness. They are serum-soaked masks suitable for all skin types and are face-shaped to ensure maximum reach of the product.

They also contain hydrating essence that provides the skin with required minerals and hence, nourishes it. Just like the exfoliant, it can be used 2 to 3 times a week.

8. Eye cream

The eighth step in this regime is to put on some eye cream under your eyes. It helps with darkness, puffiness, and fine lines around the eyes.

The skin around the eyes proves to be the most sensitive area on the face and hence requires extra effort. They also show the first signs of aging and ailment.

9. Moisturizer

The ninth step is to moisturize your skin. Moisturizer seals all the products into your skin and also rejuvenates the skin. It also helps in improving the complexion into a more radiant one.

Specifically for Indian skin, most dermatologists suggest the use of a moisturizer.

10. SPF

The last step of the 10-step Korean skin care routine is to put on some sunscreen. SPF has slowly been recognized as essential due to the pollution and harmful effects of the sun that worsen with global warming.

It not only protects the skin from harmful exposure to the sun but also provides a shield from rays that might lead to skin burn and cancer.

So, this was the 10-step Korean skin care routine especially dug up to let you know the secret of Koreans’ healthy and glowing skin.
